My books Into the Cacao Grove and The Stone Bird are featured below, and are both available as printed facsimile soft back books. Please visit my HOME page for details.

The Stone Bird

is based upon my interest in fossils, the natural world and also, of course, birds. It won first prize in the Quilt Creations section of the Festival of Quilts 2011.It then toured to the three Knitting and Stitching shows in London, Dublin and Harrogate.

Like my previous book [see below]it is quite large, being about 80cm x 55cm, and weighing 12 kg. The printed version is A4 sized, full of images and text, and comes with an informative bookmark too.

Both this book and Into the Cacao Grove are constructed from hand painted and printed fabric, machine and hand stitch embroidery and feature my own text and designs.

Here are some images from The Stone Bird

THRIFT and ALCHEMY

This is the name of my recycling and upcycling project. I have finished two works, one of which is a 16 piece project called White Noise. It is an artist's book which will be at the Festival of Quilts in 2012, on my stand. These images are of the mixed media work on each page.

Each page is 45cm x 30cm, appliqued mixed and painted fabrics, papers, plastics, metal, porcelain, and various objects, with hand and machine stitch.

Gold will be exhibited as a hanging, and after the White Noise images you can see the separate components of the piece. Each is around 30 x 30 cm, machine and hand stitched using mixed reclaimed media.

There is a poem which will also be shown with the work, which I have  included here.

It will be shown in Worcester Cathedral in May 2012 and at the Festival of Quilts 2012.

GOLD

From the bright sky,

a curious sabbatical, temporal,

for some, of the soul,

dropped warmth into autumn.

.

A rare trespass,

augmented

sun

and heat.

.

.

Iron cold forgotten,

I wake at six to see

Orion,

sharp in the still dark.

.

Later, black leaves against

rich dense sky,

orange, ochre, silver, indigo;

sun hidden yet.

.

.

.

.

A rain of acorns,

rib rich red paeony leaf

crimson and vermilion wax of discarded berry, a lapidary delight.

Shimmering light on scuffed leaves,

 a summer lassitude,

gold.
